Dear Friend of Joy
Somewhere, at this moment, men, women and children are going hungry. We're not speaking of people in some far-away place, but of our fellow American neighbors right here in out own community. There have been thousands of heartbreaking stories, told of people whose normal, productive lives somehow went awry.
Fortunately, for many of them, a beacon light began to shine when Dr. Mable John founded "Joy In Jesus Ministries" and under that ministry, established Community Outreach To End Homelessness. As a feeding and clothing oasis, this program has faithfully served the less fortunate for the past six years. Hundreds come to the parking lot of Inner City Christian Center, as well as several other locations throughout the year, to receive food, clothing, toiletries, toys and blankets from the ministry. Reading and computer classes are also available. Many have been rehabilitated through the J.C.O job skills program. They share stories like Robert Harper, a security guard, who credits the program with sustaining him through extremely hard times and now volunteers his time picking up and delivering food and clothing for the program.
J.C.O is only able to continue its work because of people like you, who continue to bless those efforts with your kind and generous support. As the Honorary Chairperson for this year's event, we are inviting you to join us at the Joy Community Outreach Seventh Annual Celebrity Auction, being held August 11, 2000, at the Wyndham Bel Age Hotel in Hollywood. The event this year promises to be outstanding and included many exciting items for your bidding pleasure. Last year's auctions raised over fifty thousand dollars and we're hoping your participation in this year's event will help double the amount.
We are asking that you support this year's event by donating memorabilia, a gift certificate, or help us to underwrite the cost of this year's Celebrity Auction.
