MAYOR HENRY COTTON
Bastrop, Louisiana (Mayor: Year 2017 - Present)
*Mayor Cotton is the "36th" Mayor of Bastrop.
*He worked with Former-Mayor Hawkins
and the City Council on a beautiful multi-family
"Bastrop Townhouse Development", which will include
housing for agricultural workers, a club house, playground,
proper zoning and code enforcements, and built with USDA
standards that adhere to government regulations.
*He implemented a project called "Town of Gowns",
where he is actively involved in giving the youth of
Bastrop a chance to wear a graduation cap and gown.
*He wants everyone in the Bastrop community to be part
of the decision making process for their future. And, to
support his vision, he is actively working with young
students and their parents to prepare students for
high tech jobs by ensuring that students can access
and utilize afterschool programs, intervention programs,
and educational opportunities to improve their
standardized test scores.
*His plan is to also bring together nonprofits and churches
so that each can learn what services the other is offering to
help find necessary resources.

MAYOR ARTHUR JONES
Bastrop, Louisiana (Mayor: Year 2013 - 2017)
*Former-Mayor Jones was the "35th" Mayor of Bastrop.
*He focused on the reopening of the East Madison
Swimming Pool, which was a reflection of his concern
about idle youth in his community.
*He sought to attract new smaller industries to Bastrop in
attempt to resolve the void left by the closing in 2008 of
the International Paper Mill.
*He focused on reenergizing and diversifying Bastrop's
economy, and under his watch, Bastrop was named one of
the nation's top 100 micropolitans for economic development.
*Also during his term, the city paid off bills, while implementing
major infrastructure projects, like street and sewer repairs.

MAYOR BETTY ALFORD-OLIVE
Bastrop, Louisiana (Mayor: Year 2009 - 2013)
*Former-Mayor Alford-Olive was the
"34th" Mayor of Bastrop.
*She had a key goal of searching internally within
Bastrop's talented workforce in efforts to foster
a new generation of local businesses.
*During her term, the city of Bastrop achieved an
impressive "A+" bond rating.
*She focused on areas where the economy was emerging
to ensure that Bastrop had a trained workforce.
*She envisioned community beautification efforts as
a key to revitalization and included this approach
during her leadership as mayor of Bastrop.
*She increased small businesses' growth by
involving the banking industry.
*She serves her community via her role as a member
of the Morehouse General Hospital Board of Commissioners.
*She has a Bachelor's Degree in Business Administration
with an Emphasis on Economics from the University of
Louisiana at Monroe.

MAYOR CLARENCE HAWKINS
Bastrop, Louisiana (Mayor: Year 1989 - 2009)
*Former-Mayor Hawkins was the "33rd" Mayor of
Bastrop, and he held this position for an impressive 20 years!
*He was appointed by President Barack Obama and confirmed
by the Senate to serve as USDA Rural Development State
Director for Louisiana.
*He worked with Current-Mayor Cotton and the
City Council on a beautiful multi-family
"Bastrop Townhouse Development", which will include
housing for agricultural workers, a club house, playground,
proper zoning and code enforcements, and built with USDA
standards that adhere to government regulations.
*He served on numerous boards, and was the first
African-American President of the Louisiana Municipal
Association (LMA) Executive Board.
*He spent 20 years in the Morehouse Public School
Systems, has served in a variety of roles, and is still
an active, educational advocate of programs and
opportunities that benefit the people of Bastrop.
*He has a Bachelor's Degree from Grambling State
University and a Master's Degree in Education from
Northeast Louisiana University.
